Footwork Music Description
Footwork is a style of Electronic Dance Music and a fast-paced dance that accompanies it that originated in Chicago's South and West Sides in the mid-to-late 1990s. It is derived primarily from Ghetto House and Juke music, while also incorporating elements of Hip Hop. Footwork production features frenetic, syncopated rhythms, often half-time tempo, and extensive use of repetitive samples, skittering drum fills, tom drums, handclaps, and snares. Contrary to juke, footwork does not employ a 4/4 kick and instead relies primarily on sub-bass for its low-end. Tracks are commonly around 160 BPM, but can reach up to 180 BPM.
