Back in the late '70s trying to find copies of this and the other early Mothers LPs was a fool's mission, at least where I lived. They seldom turned up. On one occasion a shop did find a few and put them in the window. This caused a traffic accident outside when a Zappa fan drove past rubberncking at the display and ran into the back of the car in front.
On fine day around 1978 I was second hand record shopping and saw a copy of this LP. It was a bit beaten up and it was £9, quite a lot of dough back then. I didn't really hesitate, parted with the loot and ran back home to put it on, in the company of another Zappa acolyte and pal of mine.
I didn't know the album, never heard it before, but as soon as the needle hit the shellac I looked over at my friend and said "this is great".
