Edited 4 years agoAmbient, textural neo-tribalist instrumental music. Who would have thought in 1985 David "Japan" Sylvian would take such a radical departure from new wave pop int the darker murky waters of post pop ambient hinterlands.
Well it worked! You have here on this gem, jazz musicians Kenny Wheeler, Jon Hassell, Percy Jones(Brand X) as well as keyboardist Sakamoto combining nuance and minimalist. I especially enjoy all the micro rhythmic bursts albeit a bit restrained but filled with tonal color, marimbas, bells and the addition of Robert Fripps Fripertronic to top of the sonic feast. If you like 80/90s ambient tribal music of O Yuki Conjugate , Michael Brook and Eno this is a wonderful companion listen. Truly a unique recording. -
Very great instrumental album. Best of D.S. instrumentals. AVOID the remasters!! Those are incredibly badly manufactured products as usual. There's no excuse for the distorted soundquality. I've NEVER came across with a single contra-example among any remastered edition vs "originals". Never.
