Edited 15 days agoi have one of the recent reissues of this pressing. it sounds like almost nothing else in my collection. i cannot recommend it enough. truly a speaker tester. if you’re considering this release for your collection, you’re wasting time. click, “buy.”

Most underrated tenor in all of jazz. The pressing (dunno what others are complaining about) is flawless and perfectly done, typical Blue Note quality. If you like bebop jazz this is faster and incredibly engaging.

Artikel wird nachgefertigt. Voraussichtlich wieder lieferbar Ende April 2023.
Good news, seems will be available soon through regular retailers. -
Edited 2 years agoThis is the album that got me into Tina Brooks as an artist. Wow. It's amazing to imagine Sonny Clark, Art Blakey, and Lee Morgan (and Doug Watkins on bass!) recording these tracks with Tina Brooks in a single day in March 1958.

Stellar Tone Poet release. Incredible detail in the presentation of the music and excellent mastering. Perfect example of what the Tone Poet series excels at.

Edited 3 years agoSENSATIONAL… what a record... Beautiful thick cardboard gatefold with razorsharp photographs. The line up of musicians is amazing. The sound quality is 9 out of 10. Bass could have been better though. Had to change my first copy for a new one because it was warped and had some loud pops. Seems the quality control becomes more of a problem now we are further down the line. That being said i see no reason whatsoever not buying these TPs. They are far superior to the Blue Note classic series and let you discover some hidden gems that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

Trashy reissue, never had so much ear fatigue from a modern release before. drums sound trebly and thin, horns are grating, the bass has no life, piano all midrange as always. Good music, bad press/recording? Also, the photos in the gatefold are low resolution, its a good thing this was only $20. On a pair of quality reference speakers that are true to the source, this release will be unlistenable at high volumes.

Stellar work and a great lineup! The Tone Poet series is helping jazz fans like me discover some true gems. Full, beautiful sound with amazing detail. The packaging is top notch, hi-gloss gatefold cover with photos from the sessions. The new Blue Note series, Tone Poet, Classic Vinyl and the 80 anniversary series are a great value. Plus, the opportunity to stretch out your jazz tastes.

OK guys, I've just recovered from having my face melted off by Morgan on Nutsville.
What an amazing line up, Watkins who I wasn't very familiar with gets that pace nailed down with his quick fingers, doesn't miss a beat! I'll certainly check out more of his activity based on this session.
Sonny Clark opens up with such ferocity yet elegance as he hits those keys.
Morgan is Morgan and he'll melt your face and rip you throat out with any given chance and he does not disappoint here, there is always fire coming out of his horn but it sounds like it's coming from a happy place, like he's having a good time and excited with the session.
Brooks is a crooner and plays beautifully, on top of this, as the leader he gives the other musicians a lot of time to shine as well!
Blakey keeps those cymbals singing for the whole of the first side and lays down some fire when it's needed.
The crescendo of the way you look tonight sees all of the musicans taking their short solos broken up by some fire by Blakey.
Music 10/10 - How this sat on the shelf for so long is beyond me and in answer to a previous review. I use tube amplification and my listening room has a wooden floor and the thinnest rug going. No sound fatigue here. although my system is not fatiguing at all so maybe it's partly their system.
Face 0/10 - Totally melted off but it was worth it!
