An absolute steal and stellar reissue, now back at MSRP thanks to a recent repressing. I can’t imagine the original LT classic issue sounds any better than this 180g pressed at RTI issue.

My copy has very visible machine marks on side 1. However, none of those very visible machine marks makes any noise. The 2nd side looks perfect.
The sound quality is excellent as all the instruments are well-rendered. This group is something of a jazz super group - just look at the lineup. In any event, it's easy to pick out the instruments in space. Green's guitar is sharp as can be, as is Blakey's drums (it's nice to hear him let loose and still have the drumstrikes well-defined). The piano is typical slightly-soft RVG. The bass is pluckably audible.
Overall, this is really, really good.

Got mine and it came perfect; Flat, Centered and Clean I was happy the jacket was also perfect with no dings and looks great. As far as the sound It is on another level with all instruments projecting and very acoustic sounding with a wide soundstage. Grant Green performance is phenomenal with a good flow from song to song. The crescendo on "It Ain't Necessarily So" around the 3:40 mark is mind-blowing even the band can be heard being impressed. Kudos for Sonny Clark and Art Blakey for keeping Green in the spotlight while adding their masterful flavor to the songs and Sam Jones creating that space around his notes. Just buy this if you can it is one of the best TPs.

This is fantastic ! The music is awesome. Jimmy Page and Bonham might have listened to this !
It is so good that I just ordered a second copy just in case !
And by the way, not a single pop
Silent pressing -
Edited one year agoJust purchased directly from Blue Note. Nice to have this Tone Poet back in stock. Sounds wonderful, and you can't beat the performances. Blakey lights a fire under the whole thing. His ride has a shimmer that sometimes almost sounds like distortion, but it's not and it doesn't detract. Gatefold jacket was tight and ripped a bit on the inner seam when I first opened it. Oh well, the vinyl is sweet! Quiet and crisp. Love it!
