I really like the sound of this. Drums are very punchy especially in "The great curve". Nice soundstage as well. I'm not sure you could do a lot better for the price.
-
extremely dirty!!! skips a TON on crosseyed and painless ive fixed it a little by just replaying it over and over but it still skips near the end. Its a real shame because the sound quality is really good :(
-
Probably their most atmospheric album. I feel this could have served as a soundtrack for a movie. They are so talented. Recommended.
Pressing is good for me. -
Edited one year agoIt’s baffling, aggravating, that Rhino (or any company) persists in recycling the same barcode/UPC for different releases of a product, even when their mastering or pressing details differ.
Apparently, there is a 2021 Argentinian issue of Remain In Light. Here:
https://discogs.versitio.com/release/19937554-Talking-Heads-Remain-In-Light
Frustratingly, for that 2021 reissue, Rhino used the same UPC (081227080211) that it used for this 2006 reissue remastered by Kevin Gray, pressed at RTI in southern California. You can see the potential problem, yah? A seller might receive the 2021 Argentinian reissue from his distributor, rely solely on the jacket’s UPC, then incorrectly list it under the Discogs entry for the 2006 reissue instead. There’s no confirmation yet that the new reissue is just a re-pressing of the 2006 Kevin Gray remaster; further, it was most likely to have been pressed in Europe, not at RTI.
As of today, 10 septembre 2023, there are 32(!) new/sealed copies for sale on Discogs for the 2006 Kevin Gray remaster/reissue. Big red flag, since it’s been 17 years since the Kevin Gray-remastered version was released, and yet there’s still a shiteload of new copies for sale here? Beware - if you order this 2006 KG reissue, make sure you ask the seller if his copy is truly stock from 2006; ask him to confirm his copy bears the silver RTI hype sticker.
* Update - At least one seller confirmed his recently listed copy was mis-listed; it is not the 2021 Argentinian issue. It is actually the 2013 version for the EU. It possibly features the same Kevin Gray remastering as the 2006 reissue did, but it was pressed at Optimal, in , instead of at RTI in California. -
Edited one year agoSounds better than my first press. Is an analogue cut. Loud. clear, fun. dynamic, punchy , detailed and whatnot. My US OG is no sloucher but last comparison I did this pressing is louder while retaining the goods. This is the vinyl pressing to get and is still relatively cheap.

One of the greatest albums of all time! Unfortunately my new factory sealed copy is loaded with snap cracle and pop. Surface looks mostly good so must just be crappy pressing. :(
-
I compared this version to my 1st press Canadian copy. After back and forth critical listening I think this remastered vinyl has bigger, fuller and more open sound. The difference is not night and day but nevertheless its a great feeling that new vinyl sounds better than older semi-beatup copy.

Get this one as long as prices are still reasonable. This is a fantastic reissue. Sound and pressing quality is top!
