Edited 4 years agoSavage marked the end of the Rock Arena era of the Eurythmics. I among many celebrated that fact. Eurythmics return to underated genius territory with Savage.
Key tracks include: "Heaven" a sparse vocal melodrama of whirling synths that so should have been a single! Imagine the mixes that would have ensued. "Savege" has Annie on her most smokiest vocal singing close to the mic with a lush synth backdrop that envelopes the listener as she beckons.
"Shame" a true to life viewpoint of Annie who resents being a celebrity. Features Dave on vocals. "Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)" is a zany often spoken word electro piece that has a hypnotic feel.
"I Need You" is Annie at her most vunerable yet apathetic. She blithely sings of pain as the only emotion she can feel in a disastrous relationship. The song is cold, cruel and performed in front of a crowd whose noise often threatens to drown out a cry for help. Sinisterly briliant!
A brave venture for the band at the time. 5 stars!
