Edited one month agoNot a favourite of mine. The bonus material of 2005 release is more interesting than the original album. You may not like cover of the Beatles song, but it's certainly their own interpretation. But was it only to the original and not including bonuses, it would be just one star.

I see on my vinyl (on label) track A6 Savage by Lennox/Stewart like on https://discogs.versitio.com/release/17332375-Eurythmics-Savage, but on this photos I see Lennox/Lennox.
I have copy with poster and sticker like here -

Background
Following the much more mainstream commercial content of their previous two albums, Savage saw Eurythmics "turn sharp left" (as band member Dave Stewart put it), returning to the much more experimental sound that their early albums incorporated. Produced in (recorded at Chateau de Dangu in Normandy and mixed at Grande Armée Studios in Paris), the album made heavy use of the NED Synclavier digital sampling keyboard. The only other musician working on the recordings with Stewart and Annie Lennox was drummer Olle Romo, who handled much of the Synclavier programming. Lennox brought more of a feminist focus to her lyrics which was made more evident by the accompanying video album, which featured a video for each song. -
Mine came with a bonus poster of Annie, looks like a still from either the "Beethoven" or "I Need a Man" video.

To my knowledge, this was only a record sleeve sent out to music retailers to leave in the racks for pre-orders.
If the 5 people who have a copy can confirm it came with a promo-record, I'd be grateful. Otherwise, it really shouldn't be listed. -
For me, Savage is one of the Eurythmics finest records, along with In The Garden. It's very much Annie's record. The lyrics are sharp, taut in places, best examples being the biting Beethoven, the lascivious raging I Need A Man and the bone chilling title track. The corresponding (and frustratingly out of print) video album also further elaborates on Annie's concept of Savage, a fractured evolution of a woman no longer prepared to withstand herself as she is by becoming her exact opposite, before ultimately rejecting that personification.
This is a fantastic pressing on the whole, well worth picking up. The poster is a nice addition. My only recommendation is to put the record in an anti-static sleeve, the printed sleeve actually comfortably accommodates one. -

It's weird that the 2005 cd remaster, which is frankly a compressed abomination, seems to have increased in value, while the original cd with its fabulous high DR range of this tremendous album is going en masse for two bucks. If you're shopping, go for the original cd; no need for vinyl in this instance. -

Great pressing, but awful album. I have it just for collection. They make great music before.

Edited 4 years agoEurythmics had lost it by the time this album was released. It is very poorly recorded. It’s extremely bright - probably just a result of being a digital recording. Very mild sibilance on my copy, but it’s not unplayable.
