Edited one year agoit's difficult to understand how the results are so bad on this release and so good on the dvd Abba In Concert,
since both are mixed by Bernard Löhr
while the 5.1 mix on the dvd was supervised by Benny Andersson,
his son produced this album, maybe he hasn't got his father's ear?
maybe Björn Engelmann screwed up a good mix with a very bad master?
anyway the difference definitely shows here
so we'll have to wait with this bass-heavy thing until it's remixed from scratch -
Edited 2 years agoOne big disappointment.....
What a pity, it would seem for the first time given the opportunity to attend a concert. Even if listening to the recording, being transported to the distant and irrevocable year 1979. Alas, alas, alas.
I can judge and speak only about the double CD of 2014 edition. LP didn't listen.
The voices of the soloists are somewhere far away, obviously not in the foreground, the cymbals of the drum kit are clearly highlighted, and thus do not sound natural - chirping. The impression is that the regulators on the equalizer are incorrectly set. And yes, the quality is as if they were writing from the audience to an amateur tape recorder. It's sad to see the name of Michael Tretow as a sound engineer. This is not his level of work. Although he said in an interview that he was not interested in the concert sound. Another thing is to work in the studio.
It was not necessary to publish this record. No need !
Discredit your favorite band.
About the live sound: I highly recommend the James Last - Live !!! Recorded in 1974. I was lucky enough to buy a box of 25 James Last albums that included this 1974 recording. Edition 2019. 25 CDs.
Alas, this concert of 1974 was not released separately on CD. Double LP only.
The sound at the concert is so GREAT that it is not a recording, but the very presence of a concert !!! This is the BEST live recording I've heard so far !
INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!
P.S. Listening with Audio-Technica ATH-A990Z headphones, Audio-Technica AT-HA21 headphone amplifier, and Onkyo BD-SP809 Blu-ray disc player. -
The LPs themselves are fine. Clean and flat. The recording is horrible though. I'm not sure if ABBA fans wanted to like it so bad that they just accepted it as a great release but it's not. It sounds like the mic was set up in the audience or something like that. The vocals are horrible.
I believe people think this is how a live album sounds. It's not. Such a shame for such a great band. -
Bad bad bad vinyl sound. Strange vocals, compressed soundstage, it's CD sound on vinyl. No separate analog mastering has been done for sure. It's a pity.
Not worth for vinyl lovers. -

Edited 3 years agoRecording has a wide soundstage and in my opinion a perfectly strong bass. The vocals however feel a bit far in the back, muffled almost. Which can be seen as something positive like you are in the audience and not too close to them, but you miss the clarity. Also, there is something that makes the more busy songs sound very rushed and messy. Doesn’t give a warm feeling.
Nonetheless, very happy to own this 3-record live concert on vinyl.
Also very happy with the extra booklet and inner sleeve design. -
I purchased my copy brand new in December 2021 but it did not come with a code so maybe those just came with initial copies. No biggie but for those expecting it….don’t!

Mediocre happy with this release. It was on my wantlist for a long time, because I did not want to buy the 2014 ****up. Had high expectations for the 2020 release, as Miles did the remastering. He did a good job for the Stones box set, and many other Abby Road half speed masters. But I don't understand how he could bring this to the market with these much too heavy bass. It's listenable, but a little moderation on the eq's is necessary. It's okay, but still a missed opportunity.

An absolute abortion of a pressing. It is completely unplayable, as the rest of the reviews here rightly state. Universal should have refunded EVERYONE. But what do they do? They fix it, and let us buy it again. At least now we can actually play and enjoy it (the remaster sounds fantastic). But it was still a grudge purchase. Someone at Universal needs to get fired.

The music sound of the vinyl is pretty good and very clear like you are there, but the voices sound like they are extracted from 64kbps mp3 sound, very muffed.
I did a comparison with the Super Trouper half speed master vinyl, in which the last song is on abba live too, and the voices on the super trouper vinyl were very clean. (i dont know though because it is included in a studio release album, maybe the voices are enhanced in the studio and thats why are clearer).
