Ornette Coleman – Something Else!!!!

Very good reissue from OJC. Great sound but some dropouts on A4, probably non-fill.

Decent mastering, but a few spots of no-fill and one or two instances of print-through where you can hear the sax blast on the next groove over cutting through the current one. Typical 21st century budget jazz pressing!

Borderline hot and overall explosive mix. Can't go wrong with that !

Quirky swinging energetic lyrical forward looking pre-free jazz rooted in a hard bop blues base that possesses an element of fragile beauty hinting in the direction Ornette Coleman would later take to revolutionise the whole jazz world.

I got a radio station copy of this release, hard paper sleeve, green/gold labels - exactly as shown on the pics here - it is dated 03-03-72 on the sleeve so this pressing should be from 1972.

Ornette showing he can play actual music rather than the free jazz bollox that some laud. A fine pressing as per usual in this series. Is the SACD better though? Du Nann stereo recordings need zero noise floor to shine

Wasn't this pressing from the mid-70s rather than the mid-60s, based on the cover and light weight of the record?
