this pressing will bring out the most beautiful moments in this album, which it has a lot of. A specific highlight is the ending of part four, which I already loved, but hearing it here elevated it to one of the best things ive ever heard. perfect record, please listen -
Edited 5 months agoGreat! 'Not Available' was always one of my favourite albums of the Residents. This brilliant chaos changed my life. On the 'X is for Extra' record here you got a lot of very minimal/reduced versions of the originals, some fine acappella singing included. Half of the tracks sound really different, because some instruments were changed/new and some new harmonies push the original in a strange direction. Also fine listening stuff to watch/hear how they were developing the music.
At the end there's some kind of musical 'preview' to Mark of the Mole! -
Just picked up this pressing yesterday at amoeba Hollywood for 25$. Just finished playing it and it sounds really good. No distortion on the first song of side b either. Super happy I got one of the good ones. If you find one out in the wild I’d gamble and get it! -
One of the greatest reissues of all time. The extra LP is not just some thrown out tapes but an early version of the entire album. I don't see how anyone that loves this album wouldn't love this bonus LP. It was a fresh and lovely listen for me and I don't even know how many hundreds of times I have listening to Not Available. Still one of my all time favorite albums ever made by anyone. A truly unique album unlike anything else. -

For some reason the version of Not Available on this particular pressing sounds like complete garbage, it's incredibly muffled to the point of being unlistenable. The Title in Limbo songs don't have this problem. Something must've gone wrong during their initial tape transfer process because every other digital/CD version I've heard of this sounds completely fine (for the recording quality of The Residents of course). Such a shame because the rest of the albums in the original Classic Series sound wonderful. -

Going from the 90's CD remaster to this, I am a little disappointed this LP doesn't sound so perfect. For example, those haunting harmonies are more distant, and it's a little more muffled. The remaster is just better. Not sure if early LPs are clearer but I will be seeking out a later reissue -
Great pressing, love the additional material. My only gripe is the lack of additional photos/material that were included in the standard edition that came out around the same time. Gatefold with the character photos (exposed dong and all) would have been nice!
