Notes
The main differentiator of this 1st pressing, compared to later versions, is the black & yellow Parlophone label with perimeter rim copyright text beginning, 'THE PARLOPHONE CO LTD...', and the text 'RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963' above the side indicator numeral.
There are a number of other differentiators present on both the labels and the cover.
Label:
1 - The title of B1 'Roll Over Beethoven' is indented so that the 'R' appears over the 'I' in 'BIEM' below it. Other versions such as this one have the 'R' over the 'BI'.
2 - The title of B3 is given as 'You Really Gotta [instead of: 'Got A'] Hold On Me'.
3 - The publishing credit for B7 'Money' is given as 'Jobete Mus. NCB'. Later pressings credit 'Dominion.Belinda (Ldn.) Ltd.'.
4 - The MKT purchase tax code embossing on the label on either side of the spindle hole. A similar variant has the code MT.
Cover:
1 - Front laminated, tri-flipback and printed by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.
2 - The title of track B3 as 'You Really Gotta [instead of: 'Got A'] Hold On Me'.

I have a CD version of With The Beatles, and the Matrix/Runout number doesn't match any of the existing CDs. It's "0HXN3<869>46436-18446A". On the front of the disc it has the Parlophone logo on the left and the Apple Records logo at the top. It also has the following printed on the front of the disc: "CDP 7 46436 2 (DIDX 1255) MANUFACTORED BY CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. MADE IN U.S.A." and "DIGITAL MASTERING/AAD". Anyone have any idea which version this CD is?

Edited 3 months agoThe original versions of the 'cover' versions on this album:
1/6) 'Till There Was You'
Original version 'Till I Met You' by Eileen Wilson and Meredith Willson Orchestra (Decca 27334) in 1950. As 'Till There Was You' in Broadway production 'The Music Man' in 1957. First recording (as this title) by Sue Raney and Nelson Riddle Orchestra (Capitol F3847) in 1957.
The Beatles version was about the 30th recording of this song (lyric versions).
1/7) 'Please Mr. Postman'
The Marvelettes (Tamla 54046) in 1961.
2/1) 'Roll Over Beethoven'
Chuck Berry and his Combo (Chess 1626) in 1956.
2/3) 'You've Really Got a Hold on Me'
The Miracles (Tamla T-54073) in 1962.
2/5) as 'Devil in His Heart'
The Donays (Brent 7033) in 1962.
2/7) 'Money (That's What I Want)'
Barrett Strong (Tamla 54027) in 1959.

The -1N pressing is far and away the best sounding version of this album that exists. It’s cut very loud and hot, so surface noise is buried under the mix - a VG copy will do. A good balance of high frequencies - Ringo really slays the brass on this pressing - plus that classic boosted mid range that only the original pressings will give you!
This first pressing supposedly caused some tracking problems on side 2, and so that’s why there’s so many variations and recuts of this album. -
My copy is a Mono but has a misspelling “You Gotta Hold of Me” instead of You Got a Hold of Me” any ideas on where to list it?

My mono copy has "got a" on the label, with Dominion on Money and the MKT Tax Code. The matrix is XEX 447-1N. The Garrod cover has "Gotta hold on me" and is the under developed front photo. Any ideas on which pressing this one this might be as i'm a little confused! Both the cover, vinyl and inner sleeve are absolutely mint... looks like it has never been played!
thank in advance -
I think it's just the CD version that's banned (due to counterfeits). I think the LP MFSL version is possible to list for sale. I may be mistaken on this. Would love to hear more from someone that "knows" great question!
