Comparing this to a US Decca W1-2/W1 pressing, the sound is neck and neck!
To my ears, side 1 was noticeably a bit better on the UK, while side 2 was a close call, but I may give the slight edge to the US.
While I prefer this UK pressing (as the difference in sound seems to favor it), you can’t go wrong with either. -
"this LP is already listed as 'available' on the inner - which means that this LP was already released when this Headhunters inner sleeve was concieved."
I've seen a Jack Bruce-Harmony Row with that Headhunter sleeve, released weeks earlier, solidly in July. The sleeve existed in July, whether or not Polydor included it in the first UK Who's Next. -

This is one of the few release pages on Discogs where the information seems to be more than merely descriptive and even done aggressively (capitals and all that) to hammer home the contributor's 'opinion' (let's face it, that's all it is).
Ok, you know, I'm quite willing to concede that the Headhunters sleeve wasn't on the first press (if that's true) but the logic behind the contributor's argument isn't quite water tight. Take for instance, thousands of 7" singles I bought as a kid had the words 'from the forthcoming album' on the sleeve followed by the album title and catalogue number (and even the album cover in some cases) before the album was released. That's just one example. Companies will have album artwork, catalogue numbers and whatever else sorted well before the public sees it (seems obvious to me, that!).
It's quite possible, if not highly likely, therefore that the Headhunters sleeve could've had artwork and photography, etc from albums that hadn't been released yet.
This is one of the greatest albums ever made. It's a shame the 'editorial info' on its Discogs release page is cluttered with someone's 'opinion' about a physical aspect of it.
I don't think they're right, personally. -

The original Usa decca that Doug sax cut is superior in every way to anything I have heard of this one and I have heard several. Mca repress is cloudy, classics is sterile and boring. Several other modern audiophile pressings I heard all took out the punch that the OG decca W1’s have. Even like it over the track.

Beautiful pressing. I'll never be able to afford a Classic Records version, and I'm not going to spend my life looking for an original U.S press to compare it to. But this sounds vastly superior to the previous vinyl versions I have owned and I'm grateful to MOV for putting out an affordable, great sounding record.
