Edited 2 months agoJust to be clear the horns are low in the mix on the opening track only, and they’re not so low it ruins it. Other than that one small issue this pressing is amazing! Silent and good soundstage. I wish I hadn’t put off buying it for so long. An amazing and great sounding record.

As we all know, horn isn't the greatest on this release. Overall, a good pressing. Sure, some things could be better but for the price of 18€ I doubt there's a better version for that money.

I am disappointed by this pressing. It seems that globally the mix is unbalanced. If you turn on the volume(and you should to beneficiate of the Curtis groove) the recording become unpleasant and too agressive even on the sofest hifi engine. Îll try to find another version.

it sounds good, but the brass is muted in the mix. The album itself is a great classic of funk and soul

Just bought it on a whim when I saw it at my local store, and I must say I have rarely been so disappointed in a record. Apart from the horn situation and the sudden cut on "the other side of town" which have been previously tackled by other s, this is a widely disturbing mix, with some variations in the volume of the bass, flat dynamics, blurry middles... God, I might be a little harsh because I am pretty upset, but I'd say this : if you love this awesome album, avoid this awful press.

"The Other Side of Town" has a sudden cut on the fade out which made me think my turntable crashed
otherwise I think it's fine. horns are maybe a little more in the background than I but otherwise sounds great. don't really hear the sibilence others are. -
Curtis Mayfield's solo debut is a stunner, filled with biting social commentary ("If There's A Hell Below We're All Going To Go") sweet love songs ("The Makings of You") and some very tight, funky grooves ("Move On Up"). Zero issues with this pressing, aside from a few instances of sibilance on "We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue". Drums and vocals are crisp and clear, horns and guitars are punchy, with solid levels across the board, and a clean, uncluttered soundstage. My copy plays like new, with no noticeable surface noise.
-
Happy enough with this for £20 but as other have said the mix is a bit weird with horns way back
Feel like it probably isn't the last word in sound quality from this album but for the money it is ok -
Outstanding production this soundstage is not lacking anything bottom end for miles mids & topends superclean.
The vinyl is super flat very quiet impressive dynamics reflects Audiophile quality at 180 grams this 👌
