Please note: The provenance information printed on the back cover of Mobile Fidelity's Abraxas SuperVinyl reissue mistakenly lists "DSD 256”" instead of the correct "DSD 64”2 rate. The sticker affixed to the outer plastic sleeve/bag of this LP reflects this correction. The complete correct provenance is: 1/4" / 15 IPS analog master to DSD 64 to analog console to lathe.
This misprint on the back cover was corrected on Abraxas.

MOFI are killing ‘em at the moment. Consistently delivering outstanding results, release after release. For most audiophiles, this edition is all you are ever going to need. Another five star edition. ✨

Absolutely perfect in every way. Holy smokes! Bests my 2008 MOFI for sure simply b/c the vinyl is so much quieter.

Has anyone done a comparison with the German ARS, I can’t imagine this MoFI will be better as the ARS is AAA but it would be interesting to know.

Just got my copy of this release and compared it against what I already have in my collection: 1970 r6534046, Kevin Gray 2020 r16479144 and this MOFI release.
This release, on my setup, sounds fantastic compared to my other two releases. When compared to KGs release the levels are louder here, there is zero surface noise, and the clarity across the various instruments is really noticeable. The bass is also more punchy and less muffled on this release. The cover artwork is also brighter. Maybe a little too bright when compared to the other two releases - we dont know how bright the artwork was supposed to be. I dont have the 2LP to compare this one to, but I would say that if all you had was the KG release, you would be happy. But this effort is definitely better IMO and I am happy to add this to my collection.
Here is something interesting in my comparison though. When I compared my 1970 copy to the KG copy, they are VERY close in all aspects. I gave them both an ultrasonic wash, and no matter what I cannot erase 50 years of life/use from the OG copy, and it is a very good copy. But if I ignore the surface noise from the 1970 copy, I was impressed with just how good that release sounded.

Edited 5 months agoSo is this the best that this album will ever sound on one lp? The debate will go on but it's probably the most quiet version you'll ever own. If you think the clarity is better on this version compared to the 2008 version then you have better ears than me.The Super Vinyl used for this album is quieter than my Abraxas One Step but.....it is not the One Step fidelity wise. The depth, clarity and overall bigness of the One Step remains the king of the hill of Abraxas recordings. And I wouldn't worry about this going out of print anytime soon. It's numbered but there is no maximum amount listed.

As soon as I got the notification from Music Direct that this was back in stock, I ordered it right away.
To me, this is the definitive version to own on vinyl.
I’ve owned the AAA MoFi version, the original pressing from the ‘70s, and the 2020 pressing. But this one impresses me the most.
It has all of the goodness of the MoFi AAA, but has a cleaner, more dynamic sound.
My copy is flat, it’s not off centered, and it’s dead quiet.
If you’ve been on the fence, grab it now while it’s still in stock.
