Does anyone know if Gotta Release was ever remaster? I have the original silver font release, and it has always sounded a bit flat, even to other records I bought in 93

Even when they did darkside they did it better than everyone else lol, these lads were truly untouchable.

wicked darkside 'slammers' from the Slammin Vinyl boys....Ruffer was enormous on the circuit and caned by plenty a DJs, but for me "Gotta Release" is totally underrated and just pips it. What I love about it is its unrelenting cut up breakbeat edits, dark pervading sounds and wicked eerie vocals...the track treads the razor's edge of Dark Hardcore that was doing the rounds by this point, but it just feels like they had a mad one in the studio and decided to go all out, balls and all!
Mental, maddening; musically darker than anything they did before or since, shame as this style suits their manic approach. Awesome tracks :) -

Gotta Release is one of the best tunes of the era, dark, sadistic and unlike anything else DJ Red Alert and Mike Slammer have ever done.

Can't thank Clarky Cat enough for that review. I have been after Gotta Release for about 19 years after hearing it on a Slipmatt Dance Planet tape when I was at school. Thought I would listen to the youtube clip as the review was so good & as soon as I heard the eerie ringing bell on the intro I knew it was the one I was after, with the 'In the line of fire' sample & the phased breakbeat into a full-on tearout session. Wicked!!

Now this is a serious detour from the masters of happy - red alert and mike slammer - ruffer is a more dark tinged version of their previously released track "ruff" but the one you want on here is definitely "gotta release" - from the moment you hear those dark chords it's 5 n arf minutes of grinding uplifting frankly evil sounding hardcore that really grabs you by the bollocks before trailing off to dreamy sounding pads - i defy anyone not to feel the overwhelming need to go mental when you hear this - a veritable masterpiece from '93
