DJ Harvey broke this one out many a time; utter pandemonium usually followed....
Having both versions, it is however frustrating settling on the very best version, & I disagree in opinion with one viewer here regarding the US remixes. Sure, its likely the OG mix on System Music tops them all, but, there's arguments.to the contrary.
The original mix feels the most 'together'. and both its genius and downfall is its use of just percussion & dub over a high % of the track; that beloved euphoric keyed melody actually not appearing as much as you might want in theory. Saves you from over indulging; leaves you wanting more, but I quite like excess sometimes & it can be frustrating.
There's not another mix that brings anything new to the table, other than Ralphie Dee's 'Hot 103 Version'. Using the same formula, its a similar arrangement, similar length, great use of percussion & dub, side by side almost seems like for like, bar two main differences; a tougher dubbed percussion run from 4:15 to 4:46 which works very well, and, more sustained/prolonged exposure to that uplifting melody. For me that's a plus.
That's the two mixes for me, perhaps Ralphie's mix is just a little polite & faithful to the original, so much so it doesn't seem to offer much at a glance, but, how much do you need to change an absolute classic?
Both versions are priceless. -
My copy is almost 99.999% a match, my copy on the label C P is encircled, otherwise appears to be a perfect match.
