This pressing is dynamic and void of any surface noise. Every instrument is distinct, with excellent separation. I hear something new every time I listen. But more than this, The Hypnogogue is the best album released in 2023. A soaring, well-crafted, cathartic, and shimmering concept album that stands with the best of all time. Seriously.

I too approached The Hypnogogue with trepidation given both Marty AND Peter are now gone, leaving only Steve and Tim as the longest standing . However, those feelings have been permanently dashed having heard this new album in full many times and seeing 3/4ths of it performed live in 2023. This is easily the best Church album since Uninvited or After Everything. The Hypnogogue is an absolute beauty. So lush, and with all the wonderful moods and textures you’d expect from The Church and more. I love it so much I had to get it on vinyl and it sounds absolutely amazing on this black wax version. This new lineup of The Church (3 guitarists!!) is stellar and proves that the evolution of a band, even without its beloved original , can breath new life into the project and The Hypnogogue is solid proof of this. Don’t miss them live during this current incarnation. They’re on fire.
