I am giving 4 stars because it sounds slightly muffled compared to some of the other albums that I have. However I managed to buy the mint condition album for slightly over 30 euros, so no complaints from me, when other stores were selling it for over 40.

Appart from being one of the greatest hip hop albums this pressing sounds great!
Punchy bass, very dynamic sound, loving it, easy top10 best sounding hip hop vinyl.
I guess I got a good copy because there are comments saying it's awful and others where it sounds great... happy to get one of the great ones. -
I just got this pressing and I must say it sounds really good, plenty of dynamic range, bright highs and punchy lows. I'm very happy with it

Does Let me ride have the same weird distortion on the last verse (which can be heard on the streaming platforms)..?

Edited one year agoI'm listening to this masterpiece since 92...on cassette then on CD and finally now on vinyl.
I'm really happy with this pressing...bright and punchy with plenty of bass. Nothing is missing from this .....every small detail I've been listening to since a teen is still there.....it really sounds like it's been cut from the original stampers.
Buy this now. -

Hate to in on the pile-up but something about this just sounds a bit... anaemic. It's not bad per-say, but just doesn't pack the punch it should. I've cranked the bass EQ on my system a bit and it sounds fine, but maybe if you're super picky, look for something else. No clicks or anything like that though.

I am also really surprised by some of the comments. My copy sounds pretty much spot on, The discs are flat heavy and not a single scuff. Polly lined inner sleeves and as far as the sound quality goes mine does not have a single pop or tick throughout and it thumps through my system. Mine sounds fairly dynamic with detail and decent bass. I also have an earlier Death Row records re issue and that has nowhere near the same quality control but after a good cleaning sounds decent. And I have the 2017 EU pressing that has a bit better quality control than the Death Row re issue though still has the shitty paper inner sleeves but has really nice sound quality. I find all three copies have decent sound though no major differences apart from the Death Row copy having a few pops and clicks due to the poor quality control.

I ended up returning this one. Sound is flat.
I already owned:
https://discogs.versitio.com/release/11541180-Dr-Dre-The-Chronic
and that sounds much better. The difference was instantly identifiable.
Cover art is very slightly better than my old copy but the insert is stretched.
Only real improvement is the lack of "digitally remastered" on the cover.
Overall, I'd say avoid -
Edited 2 years agoMy copy just arrived and I have to say, I'm really surprised at the bad reviews, because to me this record sounds amazing!! I've always found the highs on this album to be fairly bright, so that was the same with this, but the bass hit hard and low so definitely no complaints in that department like other reviews.
System is: pro-ject dc evo with acrylic platter and ortofon 2m blue; pro-ject phono box ds2; denon avrx1000 receiver; psb t6 tower speakers; psb subsonic 5i subwoofer
