Notes
Picture disc in a clear PVC sleeve (with flap) and hype sticker:
"Limited Edition Picture Disc Featuring the alternate, 'original' track-listing and sequence - Includes three additional tracks - I Burn For You, Once Upon A Daydream & Shambelle"
This alternate track listing was apparently genuinely considered for release (a production master was created) and the sequencing features three additional tracks: ‘I Burn For You’ (the single mix from the ‘Brimstone and Treacle’ soundtrack), ‘Once Upon A Daydream’ (eventually released on Side B of the 1983 single ‘Synchronicity II’) and ‘Shambelle’ (which ended up as Side B for ‘Invisible Sun’ single).
The songs ‘Spirits In The Material World’, ‘Rehumanise Yourself’, ‘One World (Not Three)’ and ‘Hungry For You’ all feature Stewart Copeland counting in the tracks. This audio does not feature on the 1981 release.

Edited one month agoAgree with others here. The background whooshing sound at the start of each side and between songs is annoying. But that's a common issue with most picture discs. If you can tolerate that and the sporadic ticks and pops, this is actually a well-mastered and nice sounding LP (especially in light of the amount of music on each side). During the music the background surface noise is not really audible, just lightly over headphones. But the fades certainly suffer.
Unfortunately I Burn for You is a bit of an ear bleeder and the other outtakes do not sound nearly as good as the songs from the main album. It would certainly benefit from a proper release on standard vinyl as others have noted. While I enjoyed the sequencing here, I think the album as released is better. But nice to have a "director's cut" version.. -
Looks gorgeous, but boy does it sound terrible - even after two cleanings. Such a shame, I'd love to have this version in black vinyl.

I add my complaint with the rest of reviewers.
Abominable noise caused by the pvc sleeve.
The sleeve stuck to the record imprinting its irregular surface onto the disc.
Why record companies still do this is beyond me.
Same issue with my copy of Ðavid Bowie's Blackstar which came inside an acrylic inner sleeve that hazed and ruined the record.
As for the sound, it's ok.
I wished they reissued this record in normal black vinyl, but I doubt it because we're living in the age of incompetence and mediocrity.
The track sequencing is interesting, that's why it deserves a proper reissue.
Heck, my Beatles Abbey Road picture disc from decades ago doesn't have that problem and that's because it was packed inside a carton sleeve with cutout to appreciate the disc and then wrapped in cellophane which doesn't leaked any chemicals on it.
Unbelievable.

Edited 4 months agoWell my Picture Disc plays excellent with a very good sound. There's a only a hiss before the music starts at the beginning of each side. The pvc-sleeve didn't stick to the record. The extra tracks are nice!

What a shame that this was only release on an awful-sounding picture disc. I really hope they wind up releasing a proper, listenable version.

As good as you'd expect for a picture disc - not great sounding, lot of surface noise, snap crackle and pop - and I mean A LOT! Horrible plastic sleeve. Only purchased because of discount. Not recommended on quality basis... better off with flac available for purchase.
Having said that, I do like the alternate album variations. I live Invisible Sun ending variation, extended opening to Secret Journey. -
finally arrived today, after a month,. As expected, at first the surface noise is noticeable, although the record is very clean and flat, the sound is very good. Only between songs or at the beginning and end of these is the noise noticeable, I dare say that even the colored records are less noisy. A black vinyl edition would have been nice, this cost $45. The packaging is horrible, plastic that sticks to the record.

A picture disc! What? A bloody picture disc. All flash, No dash when it comes to delivering the beans. Flexible Strategies and Low Life are also from the same sessions. Not here though. It’s a pity a double wasn’t pressed with all the tracks and with sleeve notes, photos and other info. This is just a half arsed cash in I’m afraid. A waste of effort really.
