Track With No Name
Summer 1989 pirate radio and warehouse, underground classic. This sounded so good on a big rig. The eerie choir synth, the glacial bleeps and heavy, gut churning, pulsating spherical percussive bassline. Sounded so different for the times. Heralded the dark side of techno and house and an uncanny futurism of the scene, at least a partial piece of the jigsaw. -
"Track With No Name" is one of those seminal tracks that helped influence many others and shape the music scene of its time and today. Its all about that bassline for me & when the Bleeps drop in its just so simple yet heavenly, fantastic track.

Forgemasters was a trio. The third person, uncredited above was Winston "Winni" Hazel who was also the other half of Jive Turkey with DJ Parrot. Parrot was Sweet Exorcist (WAP 2) with RH KIrk from Cabaret Voltaire.

Edited 14 years agoImho this is a quite boring Release against the Smash Off Release "Track With No Schame" by "O"
In every Club in the past they play the "Schame" Track - Why ? It's more for the Dancefloor -
What more can I say? Soon as you saw the purple Warp cover you didn't even need to listen to the track, you just bought it and took it home, you knew it would be quality...
Warp releases of that era were always right first time - they often released remix versions, but invariably they were never as bang-on as the original track. -
Warp records led a revolution of incredible electronic cuts, with its first release from Sheffield based Forgemasters, featuring within it’s ranks the influential DJ Winston Hazel, who co-run the classic Wednesday night sessions at Cuba. The double header is classic example of mixing the sound of US house along with early elements of warehouse rave. This still stands the test of time and is not too hard to get hold of.

This was truly a seminal release. Nothing else around at the time sounded like it. It is hard to now, after all these years of techno and electronic dance music, how innovative this sounded.
-
imagine releasing a trance records in 1989...these guys at warp did it and already showed what they´d be avouching for in the future...always being a bit ahead of it. nice work!

Nobody could suspect what wlill happen after starting this new label from Sheffield with this release and what big influence Warp will have in the future on popular music. LFO, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards Of Canada, Autechre, Black Dog/Plaid, Nightmares On Wax, Richard H. Kirk - the world order in music is not the same since 1989...
