I was personally so suckered in by DOOM's incredible ability to turn snippets of mostly well known/non- obscure jazz- funk tracks into, well, you know 🧪🔥), that when grabbing this without a second thought, it may not have resonated as it should.
Over repeat listens 'Vaudeville Villain' reveals itself to be one of your most essential adversities.
This is for the DOOM connoisseur, who holds no discomfort in being emerged in layers of darkness.
An absolute crowning moment to be cherished, & one to lock the doors & go end to end with. -
beyond essential. doom at his best lyrically over incredible beats by producers that never got their due. blows my mind every time.

I couldn't believe I found this in the UK for a decent price. Great album and sounds phenomenally good - it's a loud press with great punch and clear vocals.

As with previous two reviewers - I think this is essential hip hop. If you don't have any of the singles - get the triple disc reissue coz the instrumentals to this album are worth having.

Edited 20 years agoGood googly moogly. The ever reliable MF Doom ditches the post-Daisy Age riddims and instead fuses some funk into dark glitch-laden electronics.
While 'Let Me Watch' and 'Open Mic Night' follow the more tradition hip hop blueprint, the majority such as 'Rae Dawn', 'Lactose and Lecithin' and 'Never Dead' are clicking, fuzzing digital ts, one step ahead of the rest of the rap pack - as he says himself, he's "rascist against rappers 'cause they all look the same to him".
