Not my favourite sounding Blue Note, lacking bass and cymbals sound terrible, maybe just my pressing. 🤔
-
Edited one year agoFor the money these Blue Note Classics are an audiophile bargain. This is another fantastic release.
The sleeve is a bit lower quality but, then, who listens to the sleeve ? The really important part is that the pressings are flat and quiet and the KG masterings are top tier.

Almost perfect copy. My issues were some repeated "tchic" surface noise on A2 (but almost at the end of the track) and some clicks on B2. Nothing too distracting.
I'll say that this mastering sounds amazing to my ears/on my system. Without the issues above, it'd be a 5 out of 5 release for me.

My copy is also bowl shaped, "dished", some pops and clicks on side 2, simple paper inner sleeve, hairlines, visible dirt spot on vinyl right out of the sleeve.... Unlike Tone Poet, Classic series is full of issues with most of the releases. I'm not going to waste my time and money and I won't buy it anymore. It is quite peculiar that they decided to put a lot of great stuff, some of the best jazz titles ever, with great KG mastering in a such budget vinyl series with evidently poor quality control of pressings.

The clarity and precision of a MMJ pressing. No problems whatsoever. Tyner's best known session is emblematic of his elegant post-bop style. Jones and Henderson are also magnificent here.

Glad to have finally got this in the UK!!!! Thankfully a perfect copy. I rehouse my records in mofi inners. Clean flat and spot on

My first copy was ‘dished’, I.e. bowl shaped . Seems to be a common problem with new vinyl these days. Awaiting on replacement copy .

Edited 3 years agoMake no mistake - this is a "budget" release: from the flimsy packaging with a simple paper inner sleeve to the lovely mastered but somewhat simplified and rolled-off sound that lacks tonal richness and clarity.
The new vinyl had visibly dirty spots right out of the sleeve and there are some clicks and pops throughout (more so on Side 2 for me).
Compared to the rest of the current BN reissues this is not the best sounding release in the Classic series.
The music itself is sublime of course. Stellar album.
