I thought this issue was fantastic …. Until I bought a NM German OG …… the MoFi now sounds like shit …. I have learned one very important thing about vinyl records …. A quality record was mastered perfectly in the first place - “remastering” is bullshit … you can’t improve on perfection. A clean, well pressed, well looked after original will always destroy a digital remaster …..

Just got a 2009 Rhino to compare and it’s not even a competition. The 2009 sounds infinitely better. This record does however sound way better than the currently in-print Rhino cut which I thought sounded quite poor. For the best copy, get a 2009 Rhino and don’t look back.

Very nice indeed, MOFI have done a stellar job with all the Dire Straits catalog. My number 3 after BIA and LOG.

Very good sounding and I put it slightly ahead of my US first press. Compared to US OG; its less bright and has deeper rounder bass; but US OG is a bit more resolving and has a little bit more crunch that people might prefer. Both copies sound very good but you can play Mofi louder before hearing fatigue sets. Unless the quality of jacket and presentation is important to you, I don't think Mofi is worth price over a NM 1st press.

Bought brand new sealed from Amazon. Both records are almost perfectly flat and are well centered. Pressing quality is very good, a very few small clicks, but nothing distracting. Sound is very good, quite airy with great separation and timbre, very dynamic and engaging. Mixing is good and well balanced. A great upgrade from my previous version of this great album (https://discogs.versitio.com/fr/release/17050929-Dire-Straits-Communiqu%C3%A9). 4.85 / 5

Edited one year agoI'm hooked right from the first track ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’, this is a very enjoyable super dynamic remaster. Every instrument is beautifully highlighted, with the guitar taking the spotlight. The bass and drums are fantastic as well. The vocals fit in nicely, without immediately overpowering, and in a band like Dire Straits, for me that's actually perfect.

Edited one year agoOver the years I have become a picky listener especially in vinyl format, had two not-so-impressed MoFi vinyls recently (Kind of blue 2X45, Supertramp Breakfast in America), so when I picked up this one I was skeptical to say the least. Once dropped cartridge my worry went away. It has the kind sound just perfectly balanced out in every aspects: size of sound stage, dynamic and both end extension, clarity and richness of Mark’s vocal and guitar, weighty & rich bass yet well controlled (nothing boomy at all). By large many consider this is the weakest Dire Straits album but because of this superb pressing I will enjoy the music a lot more than I originally thought I would. MoFi did good job this time.
One thing worth noting: my MM cartridge (Ortofon OM 30) produced wide sound stage but brighter tonal balance and more sibilance, my MC cartridge (ZYX R100 Fuji) renders perfectly rich tonal balance with meaty breathy voice absolutely no sibilance at all. -
Eh. It's really good but they could have done a better job. The separation, dynamics, and low end are great but Mark's voice sounds glossy and the high end is a tad bit too bright. The cut is very loud and lower end cartridges will definitely have issues tracking it properly.

Absolutely fantastic. Here is the entry for this album in the DR database: https://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/169617
