Edited 9 months agoHorrifically brickwalled, that and it’s mastered from lossy. From checking the early CD releases on compilations, they’re also lossy, so given that mid 90s timeframe, and looking at the spectrograms, I’m guessing it’s .mp2 compression.
Years later edit: I don't think it's .mp2 or lossy, just a digital low filter or something of the sort. Spectrograms look similar to the " Strictly Rhythm: The Fourth Album" CDs from 94. So I think it was just originally mastered that way. But I'm still not sure if the tracks here are straight up remixes or just compressed to an extreme degree because they sound quite different to the much airier original 12".
