This is a Steve Winwood best of, so it's awesome. Know what would make it even more awesome? SECOND HAND WOMAN!! Where the balls is it?

Referencing Steve Winwood - Back In The High Life (duration 5:49).

OK, it does contain the 1986 Tom Lord Alge remix of "Valerie", which paradoxically now sounds more dated than Winwood's original on 1982's Steve Winwood - Talking Back To The Night.

Overall "Chronicles" is a slightly unappealing compilation, with a whiff of cash-in from Island (Steve Winwood had just signed with Virgin Records when Chronicles was released), but it's a good way to get the non-remixed tracks if you're not a committed Steve-o-phile who wants the complete Arc of A Diver, Back In The High Life etc. albums. If it didn't have those horrible mid-80s remixes, and included the gorgeous Hammond-backed "And I Go" from 1982, it would be a pretty good summary of Steve Winwood's Island solo years.

Mastering is actually very good, having said all that. Beautifully clear and no brickwalling (1987 was years before the loudness wars set in).

BUYER BEWARE: My copy of this release has started to 'pinhole', as have quite a few CDs that were
manufactured between the early 1980's & the mid 1990's.
There are articles, on-line, that were written addressing this ongoing problem.
My advice is to rip your copy of this release asap, before the pinholes increase & become problematic
during playback of the CD.

I just got this record. I'm curious as to why the original pressing info in therunout is scratched out. Does anyone know why or have a guess? Also, Is there any easy way to tell if a record is a club version or not?

I'm sorry, but I must disagree. I layered the old and remixed versions of "Valerie" on top of one another and played them back. The vocals were absolutely identical; there was no speed differential either. The sole difference was there was more echo on the latter, but I don't believe this qualifies as 'new vocals'.

What is the quality of this release compared to the 1987 CD pressing?

It's important to know that "Valerie" isn't just a "remix". It features new vocals by Steve. Also, the LP version contains single edits of Higher Love, While You See A Chance, Vacant Chair, Spanish Dancer and Talking Back to the Night (Remix).

Is this version distributed in Europe by BMG Ariola, printed in by TOPAC?

Can SOMEONE PLEASE FIX the "view all" option link under Other Versions on these entries?!

Its operation is, at best, unpredictable on most album entries. For instance, on the Winwood above, pressing/clicking "view all" forwards me to expanded detail on the version at top! It clearly states there are 28 versions of Chronicles, but all I can view are(assumingly) the first five. On other artists or albums, pressing view all CLOSES the Other Versions section entirely. On about 5 out of 10 artists/albums, it does work properly, expanding or compressing the section.
