The first house record imported into Britain - autumn 1985. And the first reference to house music in print in England too - legendary DJ and pioneer of British mixing James Hamilton mentioned it in his column at the start of October 1985. Chip E 'Like This' was the first to make the British dance charts though (in December 1985).

My copy is the D-248 but still with the black label. Not sure if it should be a different entry.

When a friend pointed me out the amazing "Music Is The Key" (especially Basement Key) I was even more bedazzled to discover this was actually licensed and pressed on the Dutch label Rams Horn in 1985! I'm really fascinated how they managed to release this and I wonder whether there exist any other Dutch releases that can predate this Chicago house release (and I am not talking about proto-house releases...)

The reason why this record is in so many lists is: Music Is The Key (Basement Key)
This mix captures the essence of the birth of House music in 1985 when House was just about to become a genre.

The pressing with black printing on white label (DJ-888) has a defect on the A side track 2 (Basement Key Mix). The song starts at over 120 bpm and near the end drops down to 112 bpm, the blue printing label copy (D-248) doesn't do this.
