Miles reportedly was unhappy about the album's original cover, which featured a photograph of a young white woman and child aboard a sailboat. He made his displeasure known to Columbia executive George Avakian, asking, "Why'd you put that white bitch on there?" Avakian later stated that the question was made in jest. For later releases of the record, however, the original cover-photo has been substituted by a photograph of Miles Davis.

Hey owners: any comments on this version's quality? I've been looking for a pressing with the infamous "white b*tch" sleeve (as described by Miles himself). -

Are these actually re-channeled or were the original stereo tapes used for this pressing? -

Very strange that this didn't get a 2-disc stereo/mono 'We Want Jazz' release like Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, Porgy & Bess etc. Especially when it got a dedicated mono CD in 2015: Miles Ahead -
This is an superb album and this CD version is remastered and in proper stereo for the first time ever. Mono does not do these incredible Gil Evans arrangements justice. It's an album for turning up loud and it brings a smile to your face every time. Essential Miles Davis.

Great pressing, per Japanese standards. Vinyl is quiet and flawless. The mastering is a bit quiet, but seems dynamic on my system. I have to adjust the volume up a bit in comparison most other mono Davis reissues, as in the AP records. Jacket and packaging, again, quite exceptional.

Some lite noise in moments, but otherwise the sound quality is very good.
A slightly different sound for Davis, in parts due to the arrangement by Gil Evans, and in other part due to Miles use of the Flugelhorn.
The record feels very orchestrated, as if in a soundtrack of a play, being acted out in front of your ears. Primarily there's a softer touch throughout, feeling as though the band is playing in the background, behind a larger performance out front.
The music is fine. But after listening to the album several times, I still can't point to any point that draws me in. While Davis sounds good on the Flugelhown, even richer, warmer, fuller then when he's on the Trumpet, it lacks a much needed sharp edge. Instead of being an album I want to sit and listen to, this is an album I'll play while working on something else in the house. -
5/5 - This is a true reproduction. While modern tip-on covers are very nice and glossy, this one is truly a reproduction of an original. This pressing is the closest you'll get to an original and it's truly a work of art with it's attention to detail. Mastering is as good as any of the recent MoFi releases and the vinyl quality is clean and quiet.

The 12th track is misidentified as Blues For Pablo. It's actually an alternate take (Take 4) of Miles Ahead.
