The very first version of 'Higher State Of Consciousness' was released in 1994 on a compilation called The Deep And Slow (A Collection Of 12 Chill Out Tracks) on the label Strictly Rhythm.
A year later, the track was remixed and released as a single. The now famous 'Tweekin' Acid Funk Mix' is from that release, and sometimes labeled as the 'Original Mix', which is not the case.
A batch of remixes followed in 1996 by Dex & Jonesey / Jules & Skins / Itty Bitty Boozy Woozy / Mr. Spring.
The title was subsequently re-remixed in the later years as well.

IMO while TAF is The Classic (and I can hardly bear to hear it due to how massively overplayed it was), IMO the 611 Acid Groove mix is highly underrated and really technically the best track on the release*, it's really stood the test of time and works well mixed with both breakbeat and acid house.

* Well, other than really odd massive jump in DBs when it gets going that you have to to watch for.

Amazing that they still release stuff in these clear PVC sleeves known to cause off-gassing and ruin records...but despite that, pretty nice release overall. The mastering of the tracks sounds great, a bit of surface noise (I did not clean it before listening however) but nothing major. Mine is centered fine. I don't have the original release to compare to, would be curious to hear from someone who does how the Tweekin' Acid Funk Mix compares. I got this to get that mix and the Chill Edit which seems to not exist anywhere else except CD.

my 12 inch is perfect!! This 12 inch comes in a plastic outer sleeve, which makes the record mega stationary, replace this inner sleeve for one that makes the record stand up and the problem is solved!! the pressing of this record is good..
