The quality of the cutting of this release disappointed me when I compared track Mrs Chombee Takes The Plunge (DJ Food Mix) from this compilation and Zen Rmx (Remix Retrospective) [ZEN 85R].
Both times the track was placed third on the side, but version 2 sounds much more transparent and cleaner.
Maybe I shouldn't have compared only this one track. What do you think?

Edited 2 months agoBased around Sounds Orchestral's 1966 string melody from their jazzy "Hi-FI snob.
A slick and sophisticated update on the "Lessons" template set by Double Dee & Steinski a decade earlier that is exclusive to this release. (7)
Breaks used:
James Brown "Tighten Up (Live)"
James Brown "Soul Pride"
Funk, Inc. "Kool Is Back"
James Brown "Funky Drummer"
Juice "Catch A Groove"
Roy Ayers Ubiquity "The Boogie Back" -

Goddamn... has it been this long? I still listen to all these artists. This is by far when Ninjatune was at its peak. It's all down hill from here, lads.

I like this track "The Crow" by DJ Food very much. It's a so deep sensitive music in an awesome way rarely heard nowadays. I know yet really, why he is one of the most respected artists on this label :) Does anybody know an released 12" with other versions or remixes? Should there exist one I would buy immediately!

Edited 23 years agoI bought this compilation a couple years ago and hasn't left my most-listened-to CD-booklet yet. It's FANTASTIC! Most of the stuff on it is illbient, with a real nice feael to it. Luke Vibert's "Slipped Disc" features old James Brown drums with smooth vibes. This is definately worthwhile.
