a fantastic introduction to Mr Tobin's wall of work. with his sounds on every track he paints vivid pictures, all well-picked samples and occasionally blends genres mid-song. some of my favourite tracks are on this album- the chaotic "Four Ton Mantis" the dreamy "Natureland" and the smashing "Slowly" definitely one to drop into DJ sets or listen to a good system to truly experience this album. -
A rewarding experience for all Ninja Tune lovers everywhere! Charming downtempo like Slowly, mech-strong breaks like Get Your Snack On, and haunting future jazz like Natureland, Amon Tobin breaks the mould!
Also, if you got Xen Cuts, you can also slam together the sick sex harmony that is Bad Sex, with the fearless Chris Morris collaborating with Blue Jam flowin' thru the veins! -
Edited 19 years agoThis is a truly outstanding record. Pure atmospheric drum and bass that is NOT boring and repetitive, but rather exciting and uplifting. Tobin mixes old funk drums and snare rolls with vintage guitar/piano/noise samples, dark DnB synths and deep atmospheric soundscapes. Favorite track is Golfer Vrs Boxer.
