Another missed opportunity for a deluxe edition. Many tracks from Commercial Album were originally recorded as longer songs and later shortened to a minute. A few of these appeared on The Census Taker. There are different versions of Shut Up (original single version and later version with overdubbed vocals for Residue), etc. Instead we get a "RDX Suit" LP. I'm not sure if the bonus 7" includes Shut Up and When I'm Alone since they are not listed. Those are the only tracks that matter and making a 7" with 6 songs that are on the LP is just stupid. Not to mention the very cool original artwork for the original Commercial Single isn't used here. This is what you can expect when a major label takes charge of a group with 50 years of recordings. Cherry Red doesn't have a clue. Their use of random live recordings as bonus tracks on their CD sets is a whole other story.

For some groups this will be a lifetime of ideas but Residents crammed them on one album.

...this group changed alot in my life between 1978-83. specially with "duck
stab/buster & glen" (78) and "commercial album" (80), but i chose the
outrageous debut from 1974 with the legendary beatles gimmick-cover. to
illustrate their creative potential of that peculiar era...

The timings given here are all wrong as they include the gaps between the tracks.
Tracks 1 to 42 are each ONE MINUTE long. The others are each out by several seconds.
If you are going to put the timings on here, they should at least be accurate.

My copy has "RZ-8052-L-A Re2 LKIKS ▭◯▭ L-2731" on the A-side without "S-13590" and "RZ-8052-L-B Re1 L-2731-X" on the B-side like the other second press edition. So I have no idea which release it belongs to, or if it belongs to another release!

One of the best record covers ever! This album and "Duck Stab/Buster And Glen" are the Residents best imo. Both highly recommened. As is their collaboration with Renaldo & The Loaf, "Title In Limbo".

A minute can really be a lifetime. And this is The Residents' most commercial collection indeed for, in their typically strange manner, here are no less than 40 hits. Humourous as they are quite nightmarish. The group even encourages us to combine these into strange variations which might turn into 'verses' and 'refrains' of even stranger choice.

Some of these, er, songs, found their way onto the group's fascinating 'One Minute Videos' collection - among these, 'Simple Song', despite the fact entire 'Commercial Album' stands the test of time, does make the most rewarding hit.

A masterpiece of twisted avant-garde - however, if staying alone in your house at night, don't play this and dream alone - it is one hell of a strange trip.

the first Pressing had a 7" single as a bonus with 2 trax .both exactly 1 minute long . all 40 songs on the commercial album are exactly 1 minute long .
