Today, July 30th we have officially updated our quick search feature! By entering your search text and selecting the appropriate tab, you will now be able to quick search by release, artist, or label. This selection is ed in a cookie. To undo this, click the "Everything" tab. This will allow you to quick search just as you always have.

As always, we greatly value your input as part of the Discogs community. Please let us know how it's working out for you!

Can you provide an example? I just tried a few queries with capital letters and queries with punctuation marks and it seemed to work as it did before.

Perhaps change "Labels" to "Labels etc.", as it hardly is just labels under that heading now...?

Possibility of navigating with the arrows of the keyboard for tab change would be nice and intuitive ;)
    But nice update anyway ;)

Nope, because i've since discovered it wasn't caps or punctuation, but copy/paste that isn't working. After pasting into the search box you then have to hit a key (for instance the spacebar) to see any instant results. The reason i thought it was caps or punctuation was because i highlighted and removed the punctuation or rewrote the caps in small, pressing keys in the process...

Hmm, what browser are you using? I'm on Chrome, and pasting immediately brings up results.

One question: why is the selection limited to 10 choices (whatever the tab)?

For example, let's try to find this band Angel (24). If I don't which 'Angel' it is and only enter 'Angel' in the free text search, of course it didn't appear. What to do here?

    good question, val

i miss the ability to search on cat. numbers, because to me that's the fastest/easiest way to add records to your collection. at least it should be, you don't have to type artists and titles.

what bugs me A LOT is that MANY TIMES when I enter a cat. number for example 16 079 AT in search box, I get no matching results. So I search on title, Streetwalker Adventures in this same example, I find the release in the db with cat. number 16 079 AT

so , sadly, still no improvement in the search results, the engine is still not as advanced as google's

that (and some other things like ANVs that exist but don't show up in search results) is why I think i'm gonna stop submitting, or only releases that are worth it

answer @ val: the first 10 search results appear immediately, before pressing enter,
when u press enter you have 25 results on page 1 and another 25 on the next page and so on.

If you put quotes around your example it works - > "Angel (24)"

This example also works if quoted -> "16 079 AT".

Returning the best results to every single use case is not an easy task. We will continue to iterate and make improvements on the search engine. We have heard the requests from people who are interested in having "strict" results ( for those who only want to see only Bob(1), Bob(2), etc. ) be a default choice and are currently looking into that.

Please post any examples of things not working if you find them so we can try and make the search function better for everyone.

    Thanks!

It would be perfect to mentioned also the release date/year in the search result especially with all those item versions.

I don't like it at all, it's just confusing to me, and extra clicks to switch between tabs. This will definitely slow my work rate, just the sight of it distracts me from the results. Can we get an option to switch it off please?

Excuse me, but this is really a pain. Using quotes no all the time, when searching cat# ?

we have officially updated our quick search feature

    When I search for "labelle":
Why is LaBelle not among the quick search results listed (regardless if "Everything" or "Artists")?!
Why do I have to type the string capitalized as "LaBelle" to see it?

    In other words:
The quick search ignores diacritics, right? (E.g. quick-searching my real name "Lukáš" doesn't list any "Lukáš" at all, only "Lukas", although there are dozens of Lukášs in the database already.)
So why does it need to be case sensitive?
That doesn't make sense to me.

How is that possible? Previously you had to run the full search to get to those options, now they are there without having to do so.

BTW: pasting into the search box still not showing instant results for me, http://tinypic.com/r/2diq2z4/8 (opera) http://tinypic.com/r/293bxw5/8 (chrome) - i still need to press space bar

I'll look into the LaBelle example. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah I can reproduce the bug now, we will have a fix for that shortly.
