How can you tell if they are female, on the first page two have got female avatars, one of which is Nancy Spungen.

It's a fair wager it's nearly all blokes.

Not sure about the ratio, but if you're into dating a woman this is perhaps not the place I'd screen first and foremost... ;)

    I assume.
If someone says she's a woman and refers to themselves as such, I don't see why I should doubt that, nor do I care really. It's a fair wager discogs is more like a Borg collective :)

IMO not relevant, useless, We could ask about the gay/non gay ratio, the blonde/dark hair ratio, the ...
By the way I'm proudly ranked 911th of Discogs contributors.

I'd like a measure or ratio or whatever about more rank points with fewer collection items

Oddly, Star Trek fandom is one of the few Fandoms where surveys find the ratio flipped; it's just over half female in most surveys. One found 57% responding as women.

Ask about the original Trek series with Shatner & Nimoy and the ratio would be 70% men and 30% women.

I got a seller survey within the last month, and I don't think it asked either.
A bit surprised Discogs doesn't want to collect information like that from s for data analytics purposes, but I guess you get a lot of the same benefits from using Google Analytics.

I'm quite interested in this topic. I'm male, some idiots think I am Lita Ford from the runaways but that's their deal. However, besides record collecting I've got be about the most untypical male going. I make house, bring up my two kids and do all the housework and cooking, I hate sports... to be honest the only thing I do that people think "oh, typical geeky guy" is being very into music and record collecting... I mean there are lots of women I know who are also into music and music collecting, but none that I could imagine getting into Discogging as a hobby (incidentally it's really only something I stumbled on by accident really and over time it's got a little addictive). So I can fully understand women on Disocgs not wanting a fuss made, but equally it's reassuring for me to know that there are out-and-proud female Discoggers since normally anything that is the sole preserve of men makes me want to run a mile!

I discerned that you were male, quite early on, but yor early posts made me consider the psychological impact of gender in the forums. I believe it wears off after someone has been a regular contributor to the forums, as evidenced by some major contributors to the site, but I definitely sensed what I considered a bit of trepidation and reserve from some of the regulars in some of their initial responses to your posts, compared to how I thought they would react. I am not talking specific incidents here, so don't ask me to sight my sources. It was just the overall tone seemed slightly different to me. It is interesting the effect gender, and indeed sexual orientation can have on our responses, not too mention the psychic weight that an Avatar can carry.
Incidentally, I myself have one female friend who uses Discogs, compared to 15-20 male friends who do...

What about those whose pronounce is an inanimate object? Such as a vacuum cleaner or a toaster.
Not everyone identifies as a "cis hetero shitlord".

I don't believe, Discogs and gender politics mix very well.

It's both creepy and not creepy... it's a valid question for curious s, or someone trying to figure out the general dynamic of genders here on discogs.

But women get enough shit from men in this hobby that I can see it sounding creepy to them.
