This release of the album is the stand-alone version that was released separately to 'Sister Feelings Call'.
Initially both albums were packaged together as one release as shown here 'Simple Minds - Sons And Fascination / Sister Feelings Call'.The two LPs were sold shrink wrapped together. The first 10,000 copies included the free LP 'Sister Feelings Call'. As a thank-you to fans, 'Sons And Fascination' was sold shrink wrapped with copies of 'Sister Feelings Call' for the price of one album.
A sticker on front of the sleeve of 'Sons And Fascination' identified the release as the limited edition double LP and the package included two inserts [not this version]. When is Sons & Fascination / Sister Feeling Call going to get a quality reissue on vinyl. Seems these albums are fan favourites but only the original 1980s versions can be purchased off Discog sellers. Perhaps a box set with a couple of extra discs including 12” versions of singles , b-sides , instrumentals , live BBC sessions , rarities ? Surely these two great LPs are due a reissue? Does anyone know of any news?

Can't believe that this and "Sister Feelings Call" haven't gotten a quality repressing yet. We're 40 years on -- somebody needs to step up to the plate!
-
Still such an amazing album after all those years. Sister Feelings call was a diamond as well. Michael MacNeil and Charlie Burchill were simply at their top at that point in time.

Following the changes in recent days to this release's runout entries and the removal of variant 3, should the variant numbers be altered to reflect this...please advise and I will go ahead and renumber them? Input guys!

Edited 5 years agoI'm a mid period SM fan mainly New Gold Dreams and Sparkle but this one I p/u on cd today and I have to say in 1981 these guys where ahead of the game. The opening track In Trance rips off the riff from Genesis' Suppers Ready needless to say this is not progressive rock but it is progressive pop. Incorporating rock, new wave synths and a little white funk I think was the beginning of the bands break-thru era. The remastered cd is crisp and clear not muddy like many of the bands earlier records released on cd previously. The vocals are upfront, drums are punch and overall a well balanced recording.

This album was all the rage in underground dance clubs back in the early 80's. The whole album is great. Stylistically it ages well.

This album is great . Not only dwas it absolutely the right sound at the right time ; you can even enjoy listening to it today, without thinking "How could i ever like this schmock..?".Steve Hillage added an extremely good production . Soundwise there are always moments when signature sounds from Roxy Music appear .'Boys In Brasil' sounds pretty much like David Bowie (arrangement wise). But this was more a compliment to those groups , that were a big influence for them . Al in all Sons And Fascinations is well balanced and shows the start of their own sound = Underground but with a lot of mass appeal . The doors were wide open after this .
