R.E.M. – Murmur

I resisted buying this pressing for months because it's from United and I also thought there would be a reissue pressed by a better plant by now. A great pressing from United, sounded like a contradiction to me.

Listening closely to it on headphones I kept waiting for some awfulness to appear but it didn't. There isn't one pop or click on my copy, no inner groove distortion, no surface noise and it's flat and centered. It comes in a resealable plastic bag with "Vinyl made in Mexico" printed it on it and it's perfect. As others have said, it sounds fantastic too.

Thank you to everyone who reviewed it, I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

Is this pressing (no letter on the label) on Quiex, or Quiex-like, translucent vinyl?

Apparently there are ordinary, 1983 black vinyl pressings of Murmur. Has anybody actually sonically compared a near minty black vinyl copy with a translucent vinyl copy?

Is this 1983 Indianapolis pressing on translucent vinyl? The entry for the 1984 Indianapolis (#SP-70014) repress with barcode on its jacket purports that it was pressed on translucent vinyl.

Great issue, brilliant record. The Matrix / issue id is "SP-070014", all the listed variants above should be changed to reflect this - i.e. not SPO-.. but SP0...

I think I just bought this pressing, but side one has the IRS label and side 2 has the Illegal Records label. Is this a different version? Everything else checks out, including the (variant 1) runouts.

Sounds absolutely fantastic! I'm discovering new things from each instrument I've never heard before! Pilgrimage sounds as good as it ever had on this.

Absolutely incredible pressing.
The dynamics and punch are astonishing.
Tons of bottom, wonderfully defined highs through the percussion elements.
One of the better sounding additions to my collection.
A tiny bit of surface noise between tracks.
A quick clean should do it.
Can’t recommend it highly enough.
