I resisted buying this pressing for months because it's from United and I also thought there would be a reissue pressed by a better plant by now. A great pressing from United, sounded like a contradiction to me.
Listening closely to it on headphones I kept waiting for some awfulness to appear but it didn't. There isn't one pop or click on my copy, no inner groove distortion, no surface noise and it's flat and centered. It comes in a resealable plastic bag with "Vinyl made in Mexico" printed it on it and it's perfect. As others have said, it sounds fantastic too.
Thank you to everyone who reviewed it, I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. -
Edited 3 months agoSounds absolutely fantastic! I'm discovering new things from each instrument I've never heard before! Pilgrimage sounds as good as it ever had on this.
-
yes the hype is real with this cut dynamic and punchy and sparkly high end FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!! blows my usa og away

This remaster makes my og sound overproduced. The 2009 has deep bass, quality vox, live demo feel Have to hear the MOFI...
-
My favorite R.E.M. album. The vinyl is quiet and the mix master has a bit more bass than my original CD release, with greater soundstage. I’m a happy camper with this one!

Edited 2 years agoI'm generally happy with this pressing. My copy has a few pops and some minor surface noise, but, overall, it sounds very good. Full, crisp...nice presentation of this terrific album.

Got this from The Sound of Vinyl - back in stock as of July 2022.
Sounds really good - solid, punchy! Possibly hearing things I wasn't aware of before.
Have to say there was a ton of paper debris on the record (crappy paper sleeve that was seam split and dogeared).
Other than that it is a solid pressing.

Normally I end up preferring original pressings over remasters, but this is a rare exception. After A/B comparing the two, I found that this sounds the same or a hair better to the original. What really puts this over the top is that the gain level of "Pilgrimage" is improved-- on the OG it was too low compared with the rest of the album.

My copy sounds fantastic, a couple of pops here and there but nothing major. This sounds better than I've ever heard it. Then again the stereo I had circa 1983-1985 wasn't great. The sound of the rhythm section is big and the mix is stunning. Great balance to everything. The guitars just chime and ring, amazing!
