The band The Bees comes from the South-English Isle Of Wight, where in a distant past, a renowned Pop Festival (with Jimi Hendrix) was held. Since then, musically shocking little more happened on this picturesque holiday island. Apparently this musical isolation the perfect basis for the music of Paul Butler and Aaron Fletcher, together the core of The Bees. They tinkered in peace in their own studio The Shed (a shed in a pasture where cattle graze also) to their quirky sound, in which influences from The Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, Air, Fela Kuti, Aphex Twin, Lee Perry and The Beta Band. In 2001 appeared all the promising mini-cd The E.P. Punchbags and a strong performance at the Amsterdam Crossing Border festival followed. In the beginning of 2002 they released their first ' real ' cd Sunshine Hit Me. Already at the first show of the opener Punchbags feel you sink into a wonderful ruffle. The music of the Bees is of everything at once: cheerful, relaxed, loungy, dreamy, jazzy, loom, swinging, and so on. The drawling vocals by Aaron Fletcher has sometimes something by Beck and also I had to occasionally to the first record of The Police think. Typical is that even the Jorge Ben-cover A Minha Menina at one time as a typical Bees-song was sound. Splendor debut!
