Comparing this to my deluxe 2021 reissue, and the differences are honestly far more notable than I expected for an album like this. Whilst I can't speak for the MPO pressing as I own a Townhouse (and I've heard the MPO sounds far more akin to the original CD), the Townhouse sounds more like all the instruments are balanced and mixed together equally, not putting particular emphasis on any given element and letting it all flow as one overwhelming wall of sound, compared to the 2021 reissue which emphasises certain elements more. I think both sound extremely good, but I think the two styles work better for certain tracks (eg. Soon on the Townhouse sounds amazing, but I'd give Sometimes the edge on the reissue) - I won't say it isn't worth it, as it's definitely a different way of listening to the album that most won't get to experience nowadays, and the allure of a 1st press is nigh impossible to up on (particularly when you find your copy for £30 like I did!) - but if you already own a 2021 deluxe copy of this album then you're already good to go unless you're either a collector or really curious.

For comparison across all of the pressings, the first UK releases are certainly superior to the later reissues. The reissues sound a bit tinny to my ears, versus the originals have a nice clarity/balance to the guitar drone and other elements combined.

From the two UK first pressings, comparing the DMM (this one) with the MPO, I think the DMM press sounds the best. They are both good but I notice an improvement when I listen to my DMM copy.

Probably the best DMM LP I own, that's saying a lot given how crap DMM was. Great all round dynamics and transience, bass drum is clear and punchy. Lacking in low mid detail and high end is a bit thin, but not harsh.. I'm sure better can be done for this recording, but it's a good pressing. Can't speak for the recent analog cut, but I'll be getting one to compare.

I have this pressing from Creation that was purchased back in 1991. I was listening to CDs and tapes a lot more than vinyl at that time, so this release was usually enjoyed once I recorded to cassette. Kept the vinyl in great shape over the years so it was fun to compare to the reissue. There is no comparison, this version sounds superior to anything reissued on vinyl. It's unfortunate they could not improve from the OG.

Something interesting about this pressing I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere is how much real estate is left between the end of the music and the label on both sides of the album despite being over 48 minutes long. The 2017 and 2021 versions cut down on this extra space for both sides, but really drastically for side2. They must have been paranoid about inner groove distortion for the original release I guess?

As of 3/29/2021, someone is listing this for sale at 500 Euros, or as of this date, $588 US dollars. And thats the cheapest copy listed for sale! You can keep it, buddy.

I bought this on day of release in the UK and it is the Townhouse pressing. It has always sounded amazing to me, though it's worth noting the band actually only wanted this released on CD at the time, or at least that was what was reported in the press.

Although the way to my turntable was not easy, my patience was repaid. This is a true gem in my collection. Thanks Kevin..not words, play it and close your eyes..;)
