Not for the kids. This is Gangsta Rap in it's original and purest form, before it became the craptacular sellout it is today.
The lyrics reflect the streets of Compton in the 1980's with some questionable subject matter along the way with Dr. Dre's production being incredibly funky (and still is today), and Ice Cube, Dr. Dre Eazy-E (RIP), MC Ren spitting out ultra-hard rhymes, while DJ Yella does a bit of scratching, as well.
The album is best ed for it's controversial 'F**k Tha Police' song, that deals with police brutality, with a brutal revenge. This song even ticked off the FBI!
There is a LOT of profanity in this album, yet (unlike most explicit Gangsta Rap) this has a few clean songs too like the uplifting, and positive pro-freedom of speech anthem 'Express Yourself'. I also like the track 'Parental Discretion Iz Advized' too with some funky live instrumentation and a guest spot from the criminally underrated DOC.
Despite the album's aftermath of Gangsta Rap's selling-out, this, along with Cypress Hill's 90's material is the only Gangsta Rap records you need to get.
Parental Discretion Iz Advized!
