Notes

First release with the original 'album versions' with A-side matrix numbers ST-1-12211 F-II / -Z5.
There are several variants of later re-issues with the same catalogue number, but different matrix numbers, playing longer versions on side A, the so-called 'Kershenbaum remixes'.
This first release of Rio had been pressed at Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Winchester.
Different lacquers had been used for these pressings, mastered both, at The Mastering Lab

Gold-Stamp promos exist with messaging on top right corner of cover "Property of Capitol Records, Inc. This Album is on loan for PROMOTIONAL USES ONLY." Letter and 6 digit number combinations are stamped on each, as identifiers (example in hand is L 008852).

[Note on the different US releases of 'Rio':]
All 'Rio' lacquers, cut in-contract by TML and Precision Mastering, show a "Z" in the runout matrix and had been consecutively numbered.
Except Z-1 and Z-4, the numbering system counts A- and B-side lacquers separately and was used for all three album variants.
By these Z-numbers, the pressing plant, the album variant and the side of the record can be identified:
Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Winchester: Z2 (Var.1, B) / Z5 (Var.1, A) / Z6 (Var.1, B) / Z9 (Var.2, B) / Z10 (Var.3, B) / Z11 (Var.3, B) / Z15 (Var.2, A) / Z18 (Var.3, A) / Z19 (Var.3, A)

This sounds great to me! Definitely dynamic and a very enjoyable listening experience, even with my used copy being full of pops and other surface noise.

How bad is the sound on this press? According to Wikipedia, the sound quality on these first US pressings is poor. But just how bad?
