Great record. I prefer Side A just because the recording is so gnarly. The bass is way too low in the mix, the guitar tone just sounds flat out evil, the vocals are even more unhinged than usual, and Roland, as always, propels everything forward with no regard for how anybody feels. Side B sounds more balanced and professional in contrast, and is perfectly fine, but it just doesn't have the bite of Side A. In any event, it's well worth hearing this one. My copy sounds okay. Standard mid-80s pressing that's nothing special but is serviceable.

these recordings were captured with some care at the mixing console (front of house, I suppose) & mastered very well. they capture the ferociousness & funk of the band (+ "Roland", who was probably an E-mu Drumulator by this time) in fine form & is a worthy addition to any fans collection.
arguably *the* definitive Big Black document & it remains relatively affordable.
