Over they years Seeing Through Shadows has evolved from just being a really solid minimal techno track to something that defines what I loved about minimal techno (along side Mathew Jonson's Marionette). It's playful and meandering with elements sliding in and out of the mix in a way that makes it feel as though it never overstays its welcome right up until the climax where the percussion and bass get unleashed and all everything falls into place. Just a wonderful dancefloor moment that feels as good in 2022 as it did in 2006. This is both somehow the definitive Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich track for me and a track that has stayed with me even as minimal has fallen out of fashion.

Edited 14 years agoSeeing Through Shadows: What a tripped out little minimal track! I'd argue this is one of the best minimal tracks released in 2006 and also probably one of Loco's top releases to date. The elements in it are pretty randomized but somehow it still flows really well. On top of that, its very easy to mix because of how deep and crisp the bass hits are. It has a very on-off type of feel to it...the bass is cut in certain portions and you just have these floaty little melodies dancing around then wham!...the bass is back in with full force. Climax of the track occurs after the last break when it sounds like the fog machines are going off and the crazy bassline is introduced to finish out the track. Absolute must have if you like Loco Dice and in restrospect one out of maybe a handful of M_nus singles that's worth holding onto long-term.
