Edited one year agoThis is one of the best sounding records I own. Mastered and pressed to perfection. The analog music just jumps out of my speakers.
Magic Man > Dreamboat Annie (Fantasy Child) > Crazy On You is a great system demo combo. GO FOR IT. Turn it up! -

Just picked this pres from a bargain bin. The album sleeve is in fantastic shape but the record had some hairline scratches and scuffs. Cleaned it up and just played it. No pops or crackles and plays fantastic. Great album and a great pressing.

I have a vinyl copy of Dreamboat Annie from Mushroom records (MRS-5005-A (circled) 24) that does not have a track listing on the label for side 1. It's literally just an image of a mushroom with the label's "Mushroom" above it, with no track listing at all. I'd post a picture here, but not sure how. Side 2 has track listing as normal.
Has anyone ever seen this before? I can't find an album like it listed here, and can't find any info with no side 1 track listing. Any help appreciated! -
Dreamboat Annie by Heart is one of my guilty pleasures, one that I all too seldom indulge ... and each time I do I find the release remarkable on so many levels. Yet after the album is over, it’s like I’ve taken a drink of water, I’m satisfied but there’s no after-taste to hold my attention and bring me back for more.
Back in 1976, when this album was released, for the most part women didn’t rock out in this manner, mainly relegated to the sounds and styles of Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon ... rather than Led Zeppelin or even Black Sabbath. And make no mistake about it, Heart was groundbreaking at the time. Nancy and Ann had their own vision, they’d grown up cutting their teeth on the greatest metal bands of the 60’s and early 70’s, developing an aggressive style that accompanied brilliant harmonies, along with guitar layerings that played off each other, balanced with power vocal arrangements that can put nearly anyone to shame. As if that weren’t enough, they flowed across the stage making love to their instruments, striking guitar postures that made it impossible to say that they were great woman rockers, but just great rockers who could cut the air, and split a chord with the showmen/women-ship in the vein of Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, or any other male who happened to cross their path. Dreamboat Annie was an instant classic from the get-go ... and there-in lies my issues with this great album.
For two or three years on either side of 1976, there were many stunning releases, releases by Fleetwood Mac, Boston, The Electric Light Orchestra, and many others ... and they all had this quality of being instant classics, well produced, well played, well conceived, and all way over-played. And as snobby as this review may seem to be, when “Magic Man,” “Crazy On You,” or “Dreamboat Annie” blister from my speakers, you’ll find my hand reaching out to turn it up just a little bit LOUDER.
Dreamboat Annie is easy to dismiss ... but impossible to deny.
*** The Fun Facts: When one considers the album's title and the bare shoulders, should anyone be surprised that the press was suggesting that the two where lesbian sisters. A print story from the day was very suggestive, quoting the sisters as saying, “It was only our first time,” intimating that there was indeed something more between the two than simply sisterhood … while that wasn’t true, the world just couldn’t get ed the notion of hard rocking women in 1977, needing to turn them into something more, and in turn, making them something less.
