Edited 11 months agoSidenote, what's with the "made in Holland" stickers when this record was clearly pressed in the UK at the old EMI plant (by this point run by Portal Space)? Was there a second pressing done by Record Industry?

I purchased the Fish People Re-Issue first and when I quickly realized that I had forgotten what an Amazing Album this is the chase was on for an Original. I knew going in that they had Pressing Issues since I returned mine on First Release. I should have continued looking. Fast forward and I landed a copy for an equitable price. I have Two Songs that do not play well and quite possibly this is due to Vinyl Non Fill; " B7 - A Coral Room " which seems to be a Trend. This one is the Roughest One with Distortion on Kate's Vocal Bursts and there is " C2 - Prologue " which has a problem starting mid song to the end but it is still listenable with 7 Repetitive Ticks and some Distortion.
There will be people that disagree with me but I think that this Original sounds better than the Re-Issue. Chris Bellman did a very nice job on this one and it is Very Unfortunate that the Pressing Plant did not. -
Found a rather inexpensive copy in near mint condition. No distortions whatsoever. I really wanted to have the original pressing of this album on vinyl. Along with Hounds of Love, I consider this to be Kate’s best creative output.

Edited 3 years agoI snagged a factory-sealed one o these for $50 and it came with a separately packaged mousepad. Anyone kno what the deal is with that? I can't find any info about it anywhere. I did find an 8 year old eBay auction archive that had one included though. The seller didn't have anything special to say about it other than being a promo.
Also gotta say the master presented on this release is phenomenal stuff! Chris Bellman did a fantastic job. The discs did need a cleaning despite being un-used, maybe another once over. -
Like others here I've got a copy that sounds rich and detailed for the most part, but is a bit noisy here and there. Mine is plagued by bursts of what sounds like non-fill during A Coral Room. It's only on the loudest sections, but I'm using an ortofon 2m bronze that is otherwise very good at tracking demanding groove shapes. And in the quieter sections the song sounds beautiful. Record two is better aside from a bit of wispy background noise here and there, mainly on side D. I still really love the album and outside the bits of noise the pressing sounds really good, so it's certainly still worth having! But given the price of this pressing, if I were buying it now I'd definitely try my luck with the repress first.

My copy was very noisy and had distortion in places. It was so bad I gave it away. I wonder how the remaster is?

I have the original 0946 3 43960 1 1, 343 960 1, KBALP01 pressing and it was indeed very bad but after a ultra sonic cleaning it came out beautifull in every way! I don't think it's normal to clean a new record but somehow in the production process something must have gone wrong. Anyway, once this record is cleaned, it sounds brilliant in any way! Anyone else expierenced this? Please let me know, kind regards from Schiedam
