I listen to a lot of deathcore, hardcore, death metal but I genuinely love this album. For some reason it reminds me of The Misadventures of Flapjack… idk why. I found this album at a college library when I was 21. Fast forward to 30 (now 32) I had to buy the vinyl!

Edited 10 months agoMy copy has a first press sleeve, side 1 looks to be a second press label and side 2 has the highly detailed off-white first press label. Probably a mid-1998 transition pressing, but who knows. Considering this and the comments below, accurately dating early-year pressings is probably a total crapshoot.

Edited one year agoI just snagged a factory sealed "vintage" copy with appropriate hype stickers (it's legit, no resealing in sight and no codes!) but it's a bit mixed-up compared to the "canon" established here and bearing a slight difference. My sleeve is clearly a 'first press' but the disc is a 'second press' with darker art and two pressing rings. No tour flier. Runouts all appropriate. Barcode sticker on back has Merge's online site URL. Their mergerecords(dot)com address wasn't active until 2001, so I'm guessing this particular copy was run off at that time frame. I can images for anybody who wants a peep at it.

I have a version with runouts that instead of the 1938, has 1939 in it: MRG 136 A Re1 ② GS 1939.1(3) GOLDEN. It has a generic paper sleeve. I purchased it in Royal Oak, MI in the early 2000's... plain black (not 180g) vinyl.

Edited 2 years agoI think the easiest way to determine if you have a first pressing is to just check the labels. The vitrola (the record player) is much more detailed on the first pressing labels, this is especially visible on the funnel. Just check the pics here, the difference is obvious.
So, forget about checking the matrixnumbers, they’re exactly the same on a lot of pressings. Forget about the color/hue of the sleeve and labels, that’s pretty pointless unless you have something to compare with (also, I have a 1st and a 2nd pressing and the sleeves are, as far as I can tell, exactly the same color). Forget about the hype and barcode stickers on the shrink, they’re the same for several pressings.
Just check the labels, it’s as simple as that! -
Can someone help me??? I just checked the matrix runout of what was sold to me as a first pressing. I see no difference between the first pressing matrix and say the 2014 reissue…except one has RE1 and one is said to have re1…lowercased. Mine matches the latter. Basically, is there any difference here, and could someone please fill me in on some secret that proves mine is a first pressing???

I can't figure out my version...the cover has a dark bias and definitely not blue. I have an artist and barcode label (without mergerecords.com.) The labels are like a cross between the 3rd/4th and later versions in that the color is like the earlier but the placement of the Victrola is like the later. So, dark bias cover...labels the shade of 3rd/4th but placement of 5th/6th.

Is the sound quality of this pressing much of an upgrade over any of the reissues or is this more of a collector's item?
