This record sounds absolutely incredible. It feels like you’re in the studio with them. Simply masterful.

Hands down, this pressing and the new mix makes this record sound better than it ever has, and probably ever will.
-
Wow. Listening to this makes you think bad of pressings you thought quite good beforehand.
Even I can tell this one is a stand-out. Suggested bass and treble positions are spot on. Extraordinary in every possible way. Happy that I went with this pressing. -
Edited 11 months agoI used to own one of the recent 1LP reissues of the original mix. I was not satisfied with the way it was mastered for the reissue. Sounded compressed and not punchy.
This record is hands down one of the best sounding rock records I have. It encapsulates everything I love about early 90s grunge movement. Raw, unconstrained, punchy rock music.
The entire band sounds like they are playing in my room. The transparent stripped down remix is also brilliant! It just feels like how Nirvana would have performed live in a studio. This is why I love Steve Albini so much! Perfect example of a record where you can hear the space between each of the instruments.
Soundstage is huge and wide. Dynamic range is probably the highest that could be achieved on a heavy record like this. It is an audiophile grade reissue.

Edited one year agoI got both this and the 3xLP 20th anniversary Rooke remaster and they’re both top notch in every way. Recorded and mixed by legends, cut DMM from tape, pressed by Pallas, and jacketed in handsome high quality gatefolds. Can’t beat it. If you have either one, consider yourself lucky. I have a slight preference for the rawness of Albini’s signature sound. Either mix, this is a deliberately caustic album. Knowing that, I suspect Kurt’s and Steve’s visions were more aligned than the Ludwig mix DGC ultimately approved for release. RIP Steve and thank you for your acerbic, uncompromising integrity and loyalty to the artists and the music.

Very high quality release, my copy has no surface noise or warps at all. That being said, I really dislike the way this mix sounds. I prefer the original one way more than this. In of quality of the vinyl, this record is superb.
-
Love that this is split out to 2 LPs and cut at 45 RPM, but there's some audible surface noise that keeps it from being a full 5. Sounds great otherwise!
-
I returned mine and received another copy today. As soon as I opened it, I saw that it was the same because the innersleeve was torn due to poorly trimmed edges. This copy is not scratched and has little warping. I bought it on Amazon and most likely the whole batch will have disc 1 with that defect on the rim. Probably the blade would need to be changed... -
Mine arrived slightly warped, and disc 1 has rough edges and some surface scratches due to vinyl shavings. I expected better from a Pallas pressing.
