I had this version - the Chris Bellman cut. I found it harsh and fatiguing, with more compression, compared to the half speed remaster.

Super job as per by the boy Bellman. Ive heard a couple of represses of this and no question this is a stand out. Side 4 particularly impressive. Recommended.

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing... Re-issue
- Packaging: Double LP issue, pretty standard. Album labels are black along with the vinyl itself. The sleeves have some artwork on them and are labeled to match which LP they hold with the track listing and additional information printed on them. Not bad but not mind-blowing either.
-- Overall 6/10. Might seem harsh but it's just a little above average.
- Sonics: My LP is used, so that should be stated first. That being said, I found this album quite well behaved in that nothing was too "in your face". Soundstage is moderate but not exceptionally wide or deep. Given the nature of how the music is made, it's not really surprising and not something I'd count as a knock against it. There are some interesting phasing effects that are well realized on speakers but I'd say that this album is probably just as at home on good headphones as speakers.
-- Overall 7/10. Good to chill to, not something I'd use to show off the capabilities of a stereo system. Conversely, could probably be enjoyed on potato-grade speakers as long as they can get low.
- Music: DJ Shadow has had an amazing career spanning this initial LP to today. While there are several singles from this album of note, the standout Track for me will always be "Organ Donor". This album does an amazing job of bridging the worlds of ambient, mild drum and bass (I could be categorizing it wrongly), sampling and looping, all while maintaining the turntable chops to be called a "DJ". I think the breadth of the album's scope is amazing for a first time effort. Of course, seeing where DJ Shadow ended up, it only makes sense this is how it started. -
I have 2 identical copies of this pressing with same exact matrices except that one has glossy cover and glossy inserts. The other has matte cover and matte inserts. Anyone know the difference?

I'm wondering if some folks here haven't mixed the Black to Black pressing from 2011 with the 2002 reissue...
They both bear the black labels BUT the first one is definitely a digitally sourced record when the latter is the same pressing as the original from 1996.
It can clearly be checked on the matrixes AND on the labels, so it seems weird their are still some mix-ups... -
Sorry... my pressing of the reissue is not so good... very muddy and the pitch was unstable in places...
I guess this one is the luck of the draw.
Too bad... a truly landmark album

I have the original UK 1st pressing, and this repress, and head-to-head they sound virtually identical. A times I can't tell them apart at all. Yes, 'Transmission 2' is credited, but missing, so that's not great - and something an official release wouldn't allow. But otherwise this plays with no noise, and good fidelity throughout. The samples Shadow used are often poor quality recorded sources anyway from scratchy old 7" singles, which were then put straight to DAT after coming out of the Akai MPC60 sampler, so you can forget about the 'analogue chain' argument here - this is as good as it is gonna get.
Worth the time. -
