I have an Australian cassette version with a black cover (not listed above). Anyone else have this? -
Under Covers
Is it a grateful task to make a whole album of Hank Williams covers? Not quite. And while turning into the rock 'n' roll "I'm a Long Gone, Daddy" is very effective and impressive, "If You'll Be a Baby to Me" sung to harmonium is poor and negligible. Another great lucky strike is a cover of "Your Cheating Heart": "The time will come when you'll be blue, your cheating heart will tell on you", it sounds very nostalgic and lonesome. I also wonder why all those losers, alcoholics, drug addicts, tramps, criminals always see the light: "I wandered so aimless, life filled with sin, I wouldn't let my dear saviour in. Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night, praise the Lord, I saw the light" and then they die like pigs wallowing in the mud and making a mess out of their lives. Nice album.
