i'm re-listening now to all their discography leading up to the new album. listened to exai/l-event today. tac Lacora is an absolute banger! might be one of my favourite ae bangers of all time. I after seeing them live in zhijiage for na 2015 tour I drove home in a brand new rental car with tac Lacora cranked. i got into autechre in 2014, so this was one of the only records available at my local shop, so was one of the first things i bought from them. i did listen to their albums mostly in chronological order tho. but i putting this one on and was just floored as to what the hell i was hearing. i love this ep and the exai album as a whole. there was a point where exai was my favourite album. funny how my favourite record from them has changed over the years. currently it's elseq 1-5, which i'm pretty firm on that… for now at least. anyways this was their last ep, so here's hoping that sign has a companion ep to it.

i hear a distinct echo of Incunabula-era sounds in the middle of "M39 Diffain"... quite an interesting release, i find myself returning to this one regularly. i wonder if Autechre's entire output might be better heard at EP length. they've done very well with that format (Peel Session 2, Envane, Garbage, Anti... hell practically all of them)

An absolute masterpiece. This is everything I could ever ask for from an Autechre EP! Give osla for n a chance, it's actually become my favorite track on the EP (though by a thin margin)

Wonderful, but can anyone how to get the website destruction stuff, i distinctly having websites destroyed to the sound of a random on the fly sort of version of L-Event around release time... I really want to see that shit again, I keep googling but I can't find anything about it :(

Edited 10 years agoto my ears it's a surprisingly enjoyable release. it sounds fantastic, the tracks are tight and it doesn't drag on forever. side b alone is worth the price of entry.

Edited 11 years agoAn intriguing little EP from Autechre. As mentioned, it's clearly made from leftovers from the Exai sessions, but the tracks fit very nicely into this four-piece set, and complement the parent record well. Don't expect anything too new or groundbreaking here, but if you enjoyed what the duo did with Exai then this is likely to please. The emphasis here is on beatwork and texture, with their trademark layers making repeat listens a necessity, and the melodic "newbound" makes a great closer to the set. It's the stand-out track for me, since I've always preferred their melodic work, but each piece here has something to offer and depth to explore.
